Requirements:
GINGER pattern by Sallie Tomato
Purchase pattern. In the pattern follow the MATERIALS NEEDED and SUPPLIES NEEDED. Try to support your local quilt store.
At the back of the pattern, you will see pattern pieces. You will need to copy these. On pg.11 you will see a test square. After printing this page, measure to ensure the square is exactly "1 1/2” square. If not you will need to adjust your settings.
Pg.1 CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS
Follow each step and LABEL each piece.
Pg. 1 SEWING INSTRUCTIONS
Follow the steps for fusing the interfacings.
Pg. 5 MAKE THE STRAP
Follow steps 1-5 to make the strap. Here is where you can use webbing or fabric. If you purchase webbing make sure it is 3/4” wide to fit the hardware. You can use 1” hardware but I wouldn’t go any wider than 1”. You can also use webbing for the Strap Connectors. I will show you how to add the hardware.
Have everything LABELED. Labeling keeps you organized and more productive in class.
Bring sewing machine and cords, all parts and pieces for the bag, thread, favorite marking tool, ruler anyone will be fine, zipper foot if you have one, and any favorite notions you like to sew with.
Instructor Name:
Shelley Taylor
Instructor Bio:
Shelley Taylor started her love for sewing as a child. She learned from her mother and both grandmothers, watching them quilt and sew clothes for the family. Shelley quickly learned to sew her own clothes and after she got married, luckily, she had girls, so yes, she made their dresses and school clothes. Then granddaughters came along and she made dresses and everyday wear for them. Along the way Shelley learned the needle art of smocking. Winning Best of Class, Best of Show, and several blue ribbons in the Pima County Fair, Tucson, AZ. That lead to the art of French hand sewing by machine. Needless to say, her girls and granddaughters were the best dressed!
Her love affair with bag making started by buying a simple kit at a local quilt shop, and she was quickly hooked. Before she knew it, she was off and running. Shelley teaches bag classes at Corn Wagon Quilt Co. in Springville, Utah. Quilters Crossing in American Fork, Utah and teaches at Village Dry Goods in Brigham City, Utah. She taught at Sew On and Sew Forth Retreat at Zermatt in Midway, Utah, sponsored by Under The Garden Moon. Shelley loves to watch students attempt a new technique, that they have never tried before, and to be excited to have made a bag when they thought that they couldn’t’. And, she will teach you how to take away the fear of sewing with zippers! When she looks at fabric, she doesn't see a quilt, she sees a bag! She has done several special orders for those that are timid at bag making. The bag that keeps Shelley busy is the Poppins Bag! Come and take a class and you will become a fellow Bagineer!
