Fall Retreat 24 Hemingway Pouch class
Skill Level:
beginner
Requirements:
HEMINGWAY POUCH Pattern from Center Street Quilts. Great stash buster. You will make two bags with one double-slide zipper. ByAnnie zippers are great.
Purchase pattern. We will start with the LARGE. Follow the supply list.
CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS-follow the measurements. LABEL the Accent Fabric and have those pressed before class.
Quilt the fabric any way you want. Be free!
You can go ahead and trim the fabric or wait until class. If you trim the panel before class bring the triangle that you cut off. You can make another bag with that piece.
I do my Inside Binding differently from what the pattern says. I will share that in class.
You can make at least two or more in class. This goes really fast. No Joke!
I have used vinyl, jelly vinyl, faux leather, and cork. We will talk about the many options there are.
Bring sewing machine and cords, all parts and pieces for the bag and zipper. Bring a ruler, rotary cutter, marking tool, thread, zipper foot if you use one, and more fabric and zippers to make more! Recently I did a class and one person made four!
I will also bring each class member a piece of cork that will make the Small Pouch.
Instructor Name:
Shelley Taylor
Instructor Bio:
Shelley Taylor started her love for sewing as a child. She learned from her mother and both grandmothers, watching them quilt and sew clothes for the family. Shelley quickly learned to sew her own clothes and after she got married, luckily, she had girls, so yes, she made their dresses and school clothes. Then granddaughters came along and she made dresses and everyday wear for them. Along the way Shelley learned the needle art of smocking. Winning Best of Class, Best of Show, and several blue ribbons in the Pima County Fair, Tucson, AZ. That lead to the art of French hand sewing by machine. Needless to say, her girls and granddaughters were the best dressed!
Her love affair with bag making started by buying a simple kit at a local quilt shop, and she was quickly hooked. Before she knew it, she was off and running. Shelley teaches bag classes at Corn Wagon Quilt Co. in Springville, Utah. Quilters Crossing in American Fork, Utah and teaches at Village Dry Goods in Brigham City, Utah. She taught at Sew On and Sew Forth Retreat at Zermatt in Midway, Utah, sponsored by Under The Garden Moon. Shelley loves to watch students attempt a new technique, that they have never tried before, and to be excited to have made a bag when they thought that they couldn’t’. And, she will teach you how to take away the fear of sewing with zippers! When she looks at fabric, she doesn't see a quilt, she sees a bag! She has done several special orders for those that are timid at bag making. The bag that keeps Shelley busy is the Poppins Bag! Come and take a class and you will become a fellow Bagineer!
